Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep concern over a violent robbery incident at the Lekki Phase 1 home of medical professional Dr. Okafor Emmanuel.
Quoting a distressing tweet shared by Dr. Okafor, Atiku conveyed his sympathy and called for urgent improvements in national security.
“Dr, I am deeply saddened by the terrible incident at your home. No one deserves to go through such trauma. I thank God you and your household are safe. As a country, we must do better on security. Stay strong and know that you are not alone. -AA,” Atiku posted via his official handle.
The incident, according to Dr. Okafor’s account, occurred in the early hours of the day when a group of armed robbers broke into his residence. The intruders held his security guard at gunpoint and proceeded to vandalize two vehicles, a Hilux van and a Mercedes SUV.
In his own words, Dr. Okafor tweeted:
“The early hours of today was a sad one to me as group of armed robbers invaded my house in Lekki phase one and completely vandalised my vehicles while holding my security hostage with guns. They vandalised my Hilux van and a Mercedes SUV. Lagos is not safe. Be careful out there.”
The frightening incident adds to growing concerns about insecurity in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, where home invasions and violent crimes have reportedly been on the rise.
Atiku’s reaction underscores the urgent need for enhanced public safety measures, especially in areas previously considered secure.
