NN News Media Publishers’ Nkiruka Nistoran has ignited a political firestorm, declaring that the idea of a “Southern presidency” in 2027 is a scam especially if President Bola Tinubu remains in the race.
She argues that Tinubu’s past actions, including his support for a northern candidate over a southern one in 2015, disqualify him from representing the South in the upcoming election.
Nistoran insists that the presidency in 2027 should not be framed as a regional entitlement but as a national opportunity. “It’s Nigeria’s turn,” she wrote, emphasizing that any region should be free to contest. However, she adds that if the South is to produce the next president, Tinubu must step aside and support a candidate from the South-East. Anything short of this, she claims, is political deception.
She highlights the dominance of South-West politicians since Nigeria’s return to democracy:
- Olusegun Obasanjo (SW): 8 years as president
- Yemi Osinbajo (SW): 8 years as vice president
- Bola Tinubu (SW): 4 years and counting
According to Nistoran, Tinubu is already positioning another Yoruba candidate for vice president in 2031, further consolidating South-West control. “And you’re out here shouting Southern presidency? You’ve got to be joking,” she tweeted. “2027 is Nigeria’s presidency’s turn. Point blank.”
She warns that any attempt by Tinubu and his allies, including Nyesom Wike, to manipulate the electoral process will be met with resistance. “If they try any nonsense, they’ll spend the rest of their lives in prison,” she wrote, suggesting that the ADC coalition should establish a parallel government in Aso Rock if necessary.
Nistoran also criticized Tinubu’s religious strategy during the 2023 elections, accusing him of disregarding Nigeria’s secular foundation by running a Muslim-Muslim ticket. She claims Tinubu framed the election as a Yoruba entitlement, excluding the Igbo and other southern part of the country.
She further argues that Tinubu is not a pan-Southern candidate, but a South-West candidate with limited support. “South East and South South do not and will not support him,” she tweeted. “We stand with the coalition and will back any candidate that represent national unity.”
