Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has publicly responded to President Bola Tinubu’s recent announcement honoring Nigeria’s victorious Falcons and D’Tigress teams.

Abdullahi expressed gratitude for the President’s acknowledgment and rewards but criticized the decision to announce the prize amounts in US Dollars.

In his statement, Abdullahi highlighted the inconsistency in using foreign currency for national awards, urging President Tinubu to respect and promote the Nigerian Naira. He referenced the National Orientation Agency’s call to “Stop the Naira Abuse,” emphasizing the importance of valuing the country’s sovereign currency.

Tinubu had tweeted his congratulations to the D’Tigress, praising their achievements and inviting them to enjoy a special reception. However, Abdullahi’s reply underlines the need for national pride not only in sports victories but also in economic symbolism.
