The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has assured Nigerians that prominent political leaders Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi remain united in their mission to transform the country, no matter who eventually emerges as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
This reassurance came from Jackie Wayas, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, during an exclusive interview with Vanguard on Monday.
Wayas disclosed that the ADC is currently deliberating on whether to zone its presidential ticket or conduct an open primary. She said the final decision will be guided by internal party negotiations and the recommendations of the National Executive Committee (NEC) ahead of the party’s National Convention.
“There is a lot of pressure to zone and, at the same time, not to zone the presidential ticket,” Wayas stated. “There can only be one presidential candidate on the ballot come 2027, and the final decision will come down to internal consensus and NEC guidelines.”
She emphasized that the unity among Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi is not about political ambition but a shared resolve to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.
“The pact to save and transform Nigeria is what has brought these leaders together, and it will keep them together,” she said.
Wayas also revealed that the party is establishing a policy committee tasked with developing a governance blueprint. This document will include specific, measurable pledges for the first 100 days in office, focusing on key issues such as the economy, electoral reform, and national security.
“There is currently a policy committee being set up that will come up with impactful and credible policies the party and its candidates can use to rebuild our dear nation,” she added.
On electoral strategy, Wayas said the ADC is working toward mobilizing 35 million voters ahead of the 2027 polls. She expressed confidence in reaching that target, citing a surge in party membership and optimism that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will ensure a smooth voter registration and PVC collection process.
“The ADC, daily, receives overwhelming numbers of new members globally. Very soon, the exact numbers will be made known.
“We are confident that as INEC makes voter registration seamless, our 35 million voter plan is in sight very achievable.”
She concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to national interest above all else.
“Right now, the ADC is on a mission to build the party and rescue Nigeria from its current disaster. It’s a matter of ‘Save Nigeria.’ It’s Nigeria first in all we do,” she said.
