Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emphasized that his political ambition is driven by a desire for national progress, not personal gain.
Speaking through Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo, at an African Democratic Congress (ADC) event in Lagos on Saturday, Atiku made it clear that he is not desperate to become president.
The event, which marked the formal induction of new defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) into ADC, showcased what many described as the growing momentum of a political movement rather than just another party realignment.
Atiku, who recently left the PDP to align with the ADC and other like-minded political figures, stressed that his focus is on championing a better Nigeria one that is secure, prosperous, and governed with integrity.
“It’s not about him being president,” Olateju said. “It’s about having a good government that can deliver for Nigerians. This is not a personal mission.”
He added, “ADC is not just a political party to us it is a movement. We believe it’s time for a national reset. We need a new beginning, and that’s what Atiku is pushing for.”
Addressing current economic challenges, including inflation and hardship linked to fuel subsidy removal, Atiku expressed confidence that with the right leadership, Nigeria can overcome its obstacles.
The former PDP presidential candidate reiterated that the 2027 ADC presidential flagbearer would emerge through a transparent and democratic process.
“It’s not about Atiku or Obi being president at all costs,” he stated. “Whoever wins the ticket through free and fair means will have our collective support. What matters is delivering a better Nigeria.”
Atiku concluded by affirming that the coalition within ADC is committed to representing the hopes and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians, with the goal of real, transformative change.
