The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unanimously agreed to zone the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
This decision was reached during its 102nd meeting held on Monday.
The zoning decision was based on the recommendations of the party’s National Zoning Committee, chaired by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri. The committee presented its report during the meeting, which was subsequently ratified by NEC members.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the NEC resolved to uphold the existing zoning structure between the North and South. As the party’s next National Chairman is expected to emerge from the North during the upcoming elective National Convention scheduled for November 15th and 16th in Ibadan, Oyo State, the presidency has been officially zoned to the South.
This move sets the stage for a southern presidential candidate to emerge as the party’s flagbearer in the 2027 general elections.
