A member of the House of Representatives, Jafar Aliyu Damisa, narrowly escaped death on Tuesday after suspected terrorists ambushed his convoy along the Lumma Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack reportedly occurred in the afternoon as the lawmaker, who represents Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency, was en route to Babanna for an official assignment.

Eyewitnesses told Daily Post that the gunmen, identified as Lakurawa terrorists, opened fire on Damisa’s convoy without warning, catching his security team off guard.

“The attackers struck suddenly and fired continuously, damaging several vehicles before the security team could respond,” a witness recounted.

Security personnel quickly retaliated, leading to a fierce gun battle that lasted several minutes. During the exchange, one soldier lost his life, while several others sustained serious injuries. Some of the lawmaker’s political aides and supporters were also wounded.

Another eyewitness said, “It was a heavy exchange of gunfire. We counted at least 11 vehicles riddled with bullets.”

The injured victims were immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Despite the intense attack, Hon. Jafar Damisa emerged unhurt, though many vehicles in his convoy were severely damaged.
