Brussels, 25 November 2025 – German MEP Christine Anderson (AfD, Identity and Democracy) launched a blistering attack on the European Commission during today’s plenary debate on the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria, declaring that Commissioners are “not doing their jobs” despite years of parliamentary resolutions.

Speaking directly to the Commission bench, Anderson dismissed their prepared statements as meaningless and demanded real action.

Her words: “Abuja, the central government and protection in the capital city – go and check what is really going on underground!  So don’t give us these speeches!

This has been going on for years. We have adopted resolutions here; we have asked Commissioners to finally start doing their job and you are NOT doing your jobs.

The recent kidnapping of almost 300 schoolchildren from Catholic schools in Nigeria is a brutal reminder that these terrorist groups operate as though they are above the law.  History will judge us by the actions we take here – not by your empty words.  Thank you.

Her outburst triggered applause from several MEPs and visible discomfort on the Commission bench. The intervention follows yet another mass abduction in Nigeria’s Kaduna and Niger states, where armed groups widely identified as Fulani militias and jihadists continue to target Christian communities with impunity.

Despite multiple European Parliament resolutions since 2021 condemning the violence as “genocide” and calling for sanctions, the European Commission has taken no concrete measures.

No Commissioner responded directly to Anderson’s accusations during the debate.
