The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops in Sokoto State to intensify operations against bandits and terrorists, warning that their activities will no longer be tolerated.
Shaibu made the declaration while addressing soldiers of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Illela during an operational visit to units under the 8 Division’s Area of Responsibility.
He urged the troops of the 8 Division and the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to maintain momentum and decisively eliminate criminal elements threatening peace in the region.
Commending the soldiers for their bravery and professionalism, the Army Chief highlighted that their efforts had already led to improved security across parts of Sokoto State.
“I commend you for your courage, professionalism, and the operational successes recorded so far. Your sacrifices have enhanced security in your Area of Responsibility,” Shaibu said.
He also stressed the need for relentless operations, emphasizing that Nigerians could no longer endure the menace of bandits and terrorists.
“We must sustain this momentum to eradicate them. Their excesses against the Nigerian people can no longer be tolerated,” he added.
To boost troop morale and operational efficiency, Shaibu assured officers and men of his commitment to their welfare, ordering the construction of additional accommodations, medical facilities, and other essential infrastructure at Illela Barracks.
The visit is part of the Army High Command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism operations and improve the welfare of troops across Nigeria’s North-West.
