The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former two-time Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Borno State, Kashim Imam, and renowned political activist, Aisha Yesufu, to lead its nationwide membership revalidation, mobilisation, and registration exercise.

Imam will serve as chairman of the 20-member committee, while Yesufu takes on the role of deputy chairman.

Other members of the committee include spokesman of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko; the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbolahan Rhodes-Vivour; and former PDP Youth Leader, Abdullahi Maibasira, among others.

The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Abuja and has been given 30 days to complete its assignment.

Speaking at the inauguration, ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, stressed that no political party can attain national relevance without a strong, active, and well-documented membership base.

“Membership is the lifeblood of any democratic organisation. It determines legitimacy, strength, reach, and ultimately, electoral victory,” Mark said.

He explained that the exercise is aimed at revalidating existing members, registering new ones, strengthening grassroots structures, and harmonising membership records across the country.

Describing the task as both demanding and historic, Mark urged committee members to carry out their duties with integrity, transparency, fairness, and a strong sense of patriotism.

“This exercise is not about exclusion, but inclusion about strengthening, organising, and repositioning our party to meet the expectations of Nigerians who yearn for credible leadership and democratic governance,” he added.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Kashim Imam pledged to reposition the ADC as a party owned by the ordinary Nigerian.

“For too long, the average Nigerian has been cheated, marginalised, and overburdened. We will ensure that the peasants, the masses, the poor, and the downtrodden take responsibility, assume ownership, and reclaim the ADC,” Imam said.

He further assured Nigerians that the party would pursue policies that ensure fairness and shared prosperity.

“Our country is richly blessed with human and natural resources. There is no reason Nigerians should be poor. When the ADC comes to power, no Nigerian will be poor,” he declared.
