The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified preparations for the 2027 general election with the inauguration of a Constitution Review Committee in Abuja.
Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday, ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, said the committee’s mandate includes strengthening provisions that promote transparency, equity, and internal democracy within the party.
The ADC, unveiled last July by prominent opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has positioned itself as a coalition platform ahead of the 2027 polls.
Earlier this week, the party also inaugurated a 21-member Membership, Revalidation, Mobilisation, and Registration (MRMR) Committee, stressing that its political success depends on building a strong and credible membership base.
Mark urged members of the constitution review committee to produce a framework that enhances discipline, unity, and accountability. He noted that the exercise was not intended to alter the party’s founding principles but to strengthen them.
“This is about clarity, fairness, inclusiveness, and accountability in our structures and processes,” Mark said. “It is about empowering our members, promoting unity, resolving disputes fairly, and positioning the ADC as a credible alternative for national leadership.”
He added that committee members were selected based on experience, integrity, and commitment to the party’s ideals, urging them to consult widely and remain guided by the collective interest of the ADC.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Etigwe Uwa (SAN) assured party leaders that the panel would work toward producing a constitution acceptable to stakeholders nationwide.
“We will seek inputs from as many members as possible and strive to produce a workable, homegrown constitution that enjoys broad acceptance across the party and the country,” Uwa said, pledging the committee’s commitment to the task.
