Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has told the victims of the Plateau attacks, you have no light at the airport and I have to fly back within next 10 minutes.
According to him, there is nothing I can give you but promise you this experience will not repeat itself.
Speaking at the airport, he expressed frustration over the lack of electricity, noting that he had only a few minutes to leave but could not do so safely because of the darkness.
Tinubu was in Plateau to show support for victims affected by recent violence in the state. During his visit, he met community leaders, security officials, and some of the affected families, assuring them that the federal government was taking their concerns seriously. His trip included a brief inspection of the situation on ground and discussions on how to prevent further incidents.
At the airport, however, the president pointed out that basic infrastructure such as lighting should not fail at a critical moment. He stressed that such lapses reflect deeper challenges that must be urgently addressed. Despite the delay, Tinubu continued with his schedule and prepared to return to Abuja once conditions allowed.
Speaking directly to victims, Tinubu said he understood their pain and acknowledged that words alone could not undo their loss. He promised that the government would act to ensure that such tragedies do not happen again. He also assured them of increased security presence and better coordination among agencies.
The president added that his administration is committed to improving infrastructure across the country, including airports and other public facilities, to prevent similar situations in the future.
