In a recent video making rounds online, Adebayo Adelabu, who just left his post as Minister of Power, told a group of people that his time in government left him financially secure forever.
Speaking in Yoruba about his time in the federal job, Adelabu explained that he has no worries even without future appointments because he built enough savings during his service.
Adelabu went further, saying he used the little time at the federal level to fix his people into key roles. He stressed he remains open to new opportunities and only death would stop him from aiming higher. The remarks came in Yoruba during what looked like a relaxed indoor meeting with supporters.
His comments hit a nerve because Nigeria still battles serious electricity shortages. When Adelabu started as minister in August 2023, many hoped for real change. He talked about reforms that would bring more power and attract investments. Instead, frequent outages continued, especially in 2025 and early 2026. He blamed factors like gas supply problems and promised quick fixes within weeks, but the improvements stayed slow.
The video has renewed debate about leadership priorities. While ordinary Nigerians suffer from darkness that hurts schools, hospitals, and the economy, some leaders appear more focused on their own security and networks.
