A leading opposition figure just dropped a clear message to INEC chairman Professor Joash Amupitan saying we will escalate our own campaign for Amupitan to go if he is not removed before the 2027 elections.

The ADC Chieftain Ladan Salihu, he insists the INEC Chairman must step down.

Speaking with strong conviction on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Salihu made it clear that his group will not stay silent. He warned that if Amupitan continues as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission into the next election cycle, opposition forces will step up efforts to remove him.

The heated interview followed a major opposition gathering in Ibadan, where parties met to align strategies for the next national vote. Momentum from that meeting is building quickly, and political pressure is rising. On screen prompts during the broadcast pointed to fears of a looming political showdown, while also raising doubts about whether the election body can remain fully neutral in the months ahead.

Salihu repeated his demand for new leadership at the top of the electoral commission, stressing that even the slightest perception of bias could damage public trust in the voting process. He argued that credibility must be secured well before ballots are cast.

This strong stance signals that the opposition is pushing early to shape the conditions for 2027. Salihu and his allies believe starting fresh at the top is key to avoiding bigger problems later. The interview has already triggered widespread debate across Nigeria, with many now questioning the future of electoral trust and the direction of the coming election season.
