The African Democratic Congress has tightened its timetable for the 2026 primaries and reduced nomination fees after holding talks with party leaders, hopefuls and stakeholders across the country.

The party says the changes are meant to make its internal process more open and to get fully ready for the 2027 general elections.

Under the new plan, nomination forms will be available from May 1 to May 4, 2026. Candidates must then buy and submit their completed forms between May 6 and May 13, which is now the final deadline.

Screening of all aspirants will take place on May 14 and May 15, while the results will be released on May 17. Those who want to challenge the outcome can file appeals on May 18 and May 19. The final list of cleared candidates will be published on May 20.

Primary elections for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate seats will happen on May 21. Governorship primaries follow on May 22, and the presidential primary is set for May 23. After that, the party’s National Executive Committee will meet on May 25, and a Special National Convention will be held on May 26.

The ADC also announced new fees for those seeking tickets. The presidential form costs 90 million naira, governorship forms cost 30 million naira, Senate forms are 10 million naira, House of Representatives forms are 5 million naira, and State Assembly forms are 2 million naira.

The party is keeping its discount policy. Young aspirants aged 18 to 35 will get 50 percent off, while women and persons living with disabilities will receive a 25 percent reduction.

According to the party, both the updated timetable and the revised fees came from wide consultations aimed at improving access and ensuring a fair and credible process. It called on all aspirants and party members to follow the new rules strictly as it prepares to present strong candidates for the 2027 elections.
