Nafiu Bala Gombe has launched a fierce attack on former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, accusing him of betraying Northern Nigeria for personal political ambition.

In a viral video spreading across social media, Bala rejected what he described as Kwankwaso’s latest attempt to present himself as a defender and solution for the North. Bala said many Northerners now believe their long held doubts about Kwankwaso have been confirmed following his move from the African Democratic Congress ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC.

Bala claimed Kwankwaso has repeatedly worked against the interests of the North whenever it suited his political plans.

According to him, Kwankwaso personally contacted him and tried to convince him that a new political alliance was the answer to the North’s problems. Bala said he immediately rejected the idea and openly confronted the former governor.

He said any discussion about the future of the North becomes meaningless when people like Kwankwaso are involved. Bala accused him of helping to weaken the region at critical moments despite being given opportunities to protect Northern interests.

Bala also revisited the 2023 presidential election, accusing Kwankwaso of ignoring appeals from respected Northern elders who wanted him to step down in support of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in order to unite Northern votes.

Instead, Bala said Kwankwaso chose to contest under a smaller political platform despite knowing it had little chance of winning. According to him, that decision divided the Northern vote and created an opening for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to secure victory in the election.

Bala declared that Northerners have not forgotten what happened and warned that the region will continue to remember those he believes worked against its political unity.

He insisted that politicians like Kwankwaso only defend their personal interests and should no longer speak on behalf of the North.

The remarks triggered strong reactions from several Northern supporters online. Murtala Bashir said he had never seen any politician as unconcerned about the North as Kwankwaso. Muftahu Usman said he completely agreed with Bala’s position on the matter, while ABU Za’eem described Bala’s comments as the absolute truth and accused Kwankwaso of caring only about himself.

Kwankwaso’s political journey within the ADC was marked by internal crisis and leadership battles, especially with the faction led by Nafiu Bala. During the dispute, Kwankwaso reportedly dismissed Bala as inexperienced and too young to fully understand the realities of Nigerian politics.

His recent move to the NDC has once again stirred debate across the North, especially after the party decided to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South for a single term. Critics say the decision raises fresh questions about Kwankwaso’s political consistency and his commitment to a united Northern agenda ahead of the next presidential election.
