The Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party, under the leadership of Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has scheduled the screening of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Goodluck Jonathan, for Tuesday as the only presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general election.
Party sources indicate that Jonathan is the sole person expected for the presidential screening exercise, which is part of the party’s preparation for the next election cycle.
A 14 member screening committee has been set up to handle the exercise. The committee includes former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, Tom Ikimi.
Other members include Chief Olabode George, Babangida Aliyu, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Josephine Anenin, Dr Abdul Bulama, Dr Esther Uduehi, Edo State PDP chairman Tony Aziegbemi, Dr Sunday Solarium, and Chief Anicho Okoro, who will serve as the administrative secretary of the committee.
The party statement only referred to a single presidential aspirant, but internal party inquiries confirmed that Jonathan is the individual set for screening.
Last week, the factional national publicity secretary Ini Ememobong, Ini Ememobong, announced that Jonathan had completed registration as a member of the party during a fresh digital registration exercise directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Independent National Electoral Commission.
The PDP faction supported by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Seyi Makinde, also announced a large scale screening process covering legislative, senatorial, and governorship aspirants across the country.
According to the party, the screening exercise includes 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, 112 governorship aspirants, and 2,122 state House of Assembly aspirants. The process is set to begin on Tuesday across different states.
The Interim National Working Committee also released names of members serving on both screening committees and screening appeal panels. The party said the publication of the schedule follows its guidelines and timetable for the 2027 general elections.
The screening nationwide is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 10 a.m. and will take place simultaneously across designated locations.
In a separate political development, former Deputy Governor of Imo State Eze Madumere, Eze Madumere, has declared his readiness to contest the 2027 senatorial election for Owerri zone on the platform of the PDP.
Madumere said he is committed to restoring visibility, inclusion, and development to the zone, adding that he has the political experience, network, and capacity to win the election.
He explained that his focus would include youth empowerment, job creation, and broader socio economic development of the area.
He said his long political journey and relationships across Imo State and beyond place him in a strong position for the contest, adding that he is confident of support from party members and voters.
He maintained that his ambition is driven by equity and justice and expressed confidence that victory is achievable with support from the party and the people of Owerri zone.
