A Washington lobbying firm praised President Donald Trump speech to the United Nations General Assembly on September 22. The firm said Trump expressed shock displeasure and strong disapproval of foreign governments the United States has officially named as persecutors of Christians. Von Batten Montague York LC placed the government of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu at the top of that list.
The firm posted its statement on X the same day. It said it will meet Trump administration officials next week. The group wants to stress that Tinubu government is complicit in the killing of Christians across Nigeria. It also said the government directly targets innocent Muslims including poor Muslim children who were mining just to help feed their families.
The firm called Tinubu government a threat to all Nigerians Christians and Muslims alike and to the integrity of the United States. It said America must stand with the good people of Nigeria and support free and fair elections. Those elections would let Nigerians remove Tinubu from office and choose responsible leaders.
The firm is a Republican policy advisory group based in Washington DC. It has represented former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the United States. Trump speech at the 81st UN General Assembly criticized the United Nations for staying quiet on the persecution of Christians around the world while focusing on other issues.
The statement also called for the United States to support Nigerians seeking free and fair elections. It said American policy should support democratic processes that allow Nigerian voters to choose new national leadership.
The comments come amid continuing international attention on insecurity, religious violence, political tensions and humanitarian challenges in Nigeria. The country has experienced attacks involving armed groups, communal violence and criminal activity across several regions, affecting people from different religious and ethnic communities.
The organization’s statement therefore frames Nigeria’s crisis as an issue affecting both Christians and Muslims and urges Washington to place greater emphasis on the protection of civilians and democratic accountability.
The group said its planned engagement with the Trump administration would focus on bringing these concerns directly to US officials and urging stronger attention to the conditions facing Nigerians.
