A Nigerian political commentator known as Tony Wetife declared during a recent television discussion that he would turn into a goat if President Bola Tinubu secured up to one million votes in a free and fair election.

The statement emerged in a studio interview that has since circulated widely on social media platforms including posts by public affairs commentator Somto Okonkwo.

The video shows Wetife speaking assertively beside a female host while split screen images display Tinubu in traditional attire and citizens casting ballots at polling units.

Wetife has appeared multiple times on Voice of the People TV where he has previously questioned aspects of Tinubu credentials including age claims education records and name origins while also criticizing election processes voter registration figures in Lagos and other political figures.

His latest remark comes as Nigeria looks toward the 2027 general elections with debates intensifying over widespread hardship including high living costs soaring fuel prices hunger insecurity and the struggle of ordinary citizens under the current administration.

In the 2023 presidential election Tinubu received approximately 8.8 million votes nationwide to win the contest.

The hyperbolic interview has drawn mixed reactions online with some viewers interpreting it as deep skepticism about the depth of genuine support for the All Progressives Congress candidate amid the daily economic pain many Nigerians face and calls for stronger election safeguards.

Others view the statement as exaggerated political talk that overlooks established regional support bases particularly in the southwest and ongoing mobilization by party structures. The clip continues to generate discussion among Nigerians focused on the integrity of upcoming polls the need for transparent voting processes and the impact of ongoing hardship on public sentiment.
