Enugu State Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has denied a viral video claiming he blocked Peter Obi’s town hall meeting in Enugu, describing the allegation as false.
Mbah made the clarification in a statement posted on his X handle after a video alleging that he ordered the denial of a private facility for a political party’s town hall event began circulating on social media.
The governor insisted that he did not issue any order to prevent the party from using the venue.
He described the allegation as “preposterous and utter falsehood” and criticised those behind the claims, accusing the opposition of adopting a desperate pattern to attract public attention.
Mbah acknowledged that democracy guarantees freedom of expression but stressed that such freedom does not give anyone the right to defame others.
He also pointed out that democratic principles provide avenues for seeking redress, warning that there are limits that should not be crossed.
The controversy follows claims circulating online about the alleged denial of a private venue for a town hall meeting involving Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress.
Mbah, however, rejected the allegation linking him to the reported incident and warned against spreading claims he considers defamatory.
