Rivers State politician, Magnus Abe, has officially rekindled his alliance with the All-Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant return after his brief stint with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as the governorship candidate in the March 18, 2023, elections in River State.

Abe, who temporarily departed the APC in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections, expressed his renewed commitment to the APC on Wednesday, citing a desire to contribute to the positive initiatives spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu across the country.

The former senator, who conceded defeat in the Rivers State governorship race against Siminalayi Fubara of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized his allegiance to President Tinubu and outlined plans to rally his supporters to bolster the party’s influence in the state.

Abe’s decision to return to the APC was foreshadowed earlier in the week when he hinted at his political realignment during an appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program. In his statement, Abe declared, “Politically, I am heading back for the APC.”

This move follows Abe’s unsuccessful bid for the position of minister representing Rivers State in the federal cabinet, a role ultimately secured by Nyesom Wike, the former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Addressing his return to the APC on Wednesday, Abe underscored his eagerness to contribute to the party’s development and called on like-minded individuals to join him in supporting President Tinubu’s developmental agenda.

“We believe that it is proper that we are in the party supporting President Tinubu’s developmental agenda,” Abe stated. “We are coming in with an open mind, ready to work with everybody within the party. We believe that everybody with sincere interest in the progress of the party should be ready to join.”
