Ikechukwu Emetu, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, has made a commitment to promptly address the longstanding boundary issues between Abia communities and their neighboring states.

It could be recalled that various Abia communities in Ikwuano, Arochukwu, Ohafia, Nkporo, Umunnochi, Ukwa East, and Umuahia North Local Government Areas (LGAs) have been entangled in boundary clashes in the past, resulting in loss of lives and property.

Abia shares its borders with Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states, making it a state with complex border dynamics.

During the Okai Item Day celebration organized by the Okai Item Development Association (OIDA) in Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, Emetu assured the community members that the boundary situation would soon be resolved. He emphasized that the state government is actively working towards achieving lasting peace between Abia communities and their neighbors from other states.

Highlighting the unique challenge faced by Abia as the only state sharing boundaries with seven others, Emetu gave assurances of the Alex Otti government’s unwavering commitment to resolving disputes involving Abia communities and their neighboring states.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Okai Item for their cooperation in ceding land to international investors from Belgium for agribusiness development, Emetu suggested that such investment opportunities could transform Okai Item into a pivotal hub for the overall development of Bende LGA. The Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of collaboration and peaceful coexistence among communities for sustainable development in the region.
