Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his commitment to creating new avenues for wealth generation by providing Abians with the necessary support to fully utilize the state’s resources.
This resolve was emphasized during the launch of interest-free agricultural loans for 302 Abia-trained farmers. The event, held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, marked a key step in Otti’s plan to empower local farmers, following their successful training at CSS Global Integrated Farms in Nasarawa State.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, the Governor emphasized that the initiative is aimed at equipping citizens with the tools to maximize community-based resources. Congratulating the beneficiaries, Otti noted that the program delivers on his administration’s promise to provide financial support for the farmers, enabling them to start their agro-ventures, achieve self-employment, and potentially become employers of labor.
“This initiative is strategic, underscoring our commitment to making agriculture a cornerstone of economic development,” said Otti. “The Labour Party Government has demonstrated innovative governance over the past 16 months, with a strong focus on improving the economic and social conditions of our people.”
Otti reiterated that agriculture will be a central pillar of his administration’s economic plans, setting a foundation for a sustainable empowerment model. He also hinted at upcoming programs designed to alleviate the ongoing economic hardships faced by many individuals and families in the state.
Addressing the 298 loan recipients, the Governor reminded them that much is expected, with a monitoring schedule in place through the State Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) to ensure proper use of the funds.
Abia’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, praised Governor Otti’s developmental strides and commended him for fulfilling his promise to support the farmers. He highlighted that the goal of the training was to elevate agriculture from subsistence to a profitable business, making the state a net exporter of processed agricultural products.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chioma Onyekachi expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his unwavering support throughout their training and assured that the funds would be put to productive use.
