Aisha Yesufu, a prominent activist and key figure in the Labour Party (LP), has vehemently denied accusations of mismanaging campaign funds made by the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure.
In a video posted to her YouTube channel on Tuesday, Yesufu rejected Abure’s claims and labeled him a “big fat liar.”
Abure had previously alleged that Yesufu, alongside Pastor Itua Ighodalo, were responsible for handling the campaign finances of LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Speaking at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Monday, Abure stated that he had no access to the campaign funds and that those managing them had misused them. He claimed that the party, including himself, was not involved in the financial transactions related to the presidential campaign.
In response, Yesufu challenged Abure’s assertions, accusing him of attempting to deceive with false statements. She demanded that Abure account for the proceeds from the ‘Labour Party N1,000 Challenge’ campaign donations, which he has been soliciting since 2022.
“Yesufu criticized Abure’s claims as outdated and misleading, emphasizing her commitment to transparency and due process. She also highlighted that there were three signatories to the account, not just two as claimed by Abure. Furthermore, Yesufu pointed out the lack of accountability regarding both the public donations and the funds used to procure election forms.
The dispute comes six months after Yesufu revealed that the fundraising team had collected ₦596 million from supporters and that Obi spent ₦744.5 million on legal battles following the 2023 election.
