The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday officially launched what it terms a major political offensive in Katsina State, setting its sights on ending the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s grip on the Government House in the 2027 general elections.
The high-profile event, held at the Continental Events Centre, drew a massive crowd of supporters from across Katsina and marked the unveiling of the new coalition opposition party. The coalition brings together key political figures from various backgrounds, signaling a united front against the incumbent APC.
Among the prominent leaders present were Alhaji Inuwa Mustapha, former Secretary to the Katsina State Government and APC governorship aspirant during the 2023 elections; Senator Lawal Kaita, a former stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and Gen. Marahazu Tsiga, former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
In his speech, ADC Katsina Chairman Lawal Batagarawa emphasized that the coalition was formed not only to win the 2027 elections but also to “repair” the country, which he described as suffering under years of APC misrule characterized by insecurity and poor governance.
Batagarawa highlighted the coalition’s top priorities: combating terrorism and banditry to restore peace and stability, alongside boosting the economy to tackle poverty. He criticized the APC administration under President Bola Tinubu for policies that have led to inflation, Naira devaluation, and worsening insecurity.
“We will fight terrorism and banditry because every part of this country needs peace and stability. Secondly, we will boost the economy to fight poverty,” he declared.
The ADC chairman also stressed the importance of unity and forgiveness within the coalition, noting that political differences had been set aside for the greater good of rescuing Nigeria from the current APC-led government.
“We cannot succeed without agreeing with one another and forgiving past offenses. In Katsina, politicians from PDP, APC, AC, and other parties have come together, agreeing to work as one. We must unite to repair this country,” Batagarawa stated.
He promised that the coalition’s leadership would be inclusive, representing all senatorial districts—Katsina Central, Daura, and Funtua zones—ensuring justice, equality, and good representation for all members.
“Our coalition will fight illiteracy and promote education as part of our vision to move this country forward,” he added.
General Marahazu Tsiga, addressing the supporters, expressed confidence in the ADC’s ability to outperform previous political parties in the 2027 elections.
“By the special grace of God, we will overcome the insincerity of the APC-led government in Katsina. I am overwhelmed by the huge crowd here joining the ADC coalition,” Tsiga said.
He urged all citizens of Katsina and Nigeria at large to join and support the ADC, describing it as the only party capable of rescuing the state and the country.
“We call on the people to give us their support in this fight to rescue Katsina,” he appealed.
With this rallying call, the ADC coalition in Katsina signals a formidable challenge to the APC as the 2027 elections approach, promising a new political direction centered on peace, economic revival, and inclusive governance.
