Festus Ogwuche, a Constitutional Lawyer and Human Rights Advocate, has condemned the recent truce reached in Abuja as a constitutional coup against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the people of Rivers State.

The meeting between Fubara, Nyesom Wike, and Tinubu aimed to resolve the political crisis in the state but resulted in an agreement that Ogwuche argues goes against the nation’s laws and constitution.

Ogwuche asserts that the governor, by subjecting himself to an authority other than the one granted by the constitution and the people, may have committed an act of treason.

He questions whether the governor had the consent and authority of the people to endorse such an agreement, emphasizing that the governor’s loyalty should lie solely with the people.

Describing the agreement as unconstitutional and illegal, Ogwuche insists that it cannot be considered a valid instrument of governance in Rivers State.

He labels it a “democratic coup d’état,” emphasizing that any attempt to implement the agreement would violate the provisions of the constitution and undermine the democratic principles governing state affairs.
