Barrister Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace, has called upon business leaders to lower product prices.
His appeal aims to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians. Onyema made this plea during a round table attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other influential figures.
The context for this call comes after Air Peace recently announced the availability of flight schedules for the London route. Notably, the airline has adjusted its pricing strategy. While the return economy class ticket now stands at N12 million, the return business class ticket is priced at N4 million. Additionally, Nigerian students studying in the UK can benefit from a special 15% rebate.
Onyema’s decision to cap the business class fare at N4 million reflects a commitment to affordability. He emphasizes that this move is not a loss for the airline. Rather, it aligns with a broader perspective of prioritizing the nation’s interests. By urging private sector players to reduce their product costs, Onyema believes that the positive impact will extend to the government and citizens alike.
The recent improvements in Nigeria’s ease of doing business are also acknowledged. Notably, the Central Bank of Nigeria cleared all legitimate foreign exchange backlogs owed to airlines and other businesses last month.
Onyema’s candid remarks also shed light on the challenges posed by civil servants. He commends the steadfastness of the aviation leadership in addressing such issues. Furthermore, the UK High Commission’s endorsement of Air Peace by displaying it prominently across London screens underscores the airline’s commitment to national pride.
In summary, Barrister Allen Onyema’s call for reduced prices echoes a vision of collective responsibility, where businesses play a pivotal role in supporting the government and fostering public trust. His actions exemplify a commitment to both economic viability and social welfare.
