Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its attempts to intimidate and silence citizens.

In a recent post on her X handle, Yesufu expressed her disdain for the regime’s tactics, stating, “Tinubu thinks he can intimidate and silence citizens. What a joke He will only prolong the inevitable.”

Yesufu’s comments come amidst a backdrop of increasing tension and crackdowns on dissenting voices in Nigeria. The recent arrest of Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the invasion of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) premises by the Department of State Services (DSS) have heightened concerns about the government’s approach to handling opposition and criticism.

The NLC has condemned Ajaero’s arrest, describing it as a brazen act of lawlessness and intimidation aimed at silencing dissent. Similarly, SERAP has called on President Tinubu to direct the DSS to end the harassment and intimidation of its staff members.

Yesufu’s statement reflects the growing sentiment among pro-democracy groups and human rights organizations that the Tinubu administration’s actions are part of a broader strategy to suppress dissent and maintain control. Her words underscore the determination of many Nigerians to resist such attempts and continue advocating for their rights and freedoms.
