Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the South-South leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Transportation, has declared his intention to fiercely oppose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Addressing a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Wednesday, Amaechi did not hold back in criticizing the current administration. He accused the Tinubu-led government of worsening the already dire economic conditions in Nigeria and expressed frustration over the skyrocketing cost of living.

“I’m tired of this government,” Amaechi said passionately. “If a rich man is spending N4 million on electricity, only God knows how you the masses are surviving.”

The former Rivers State Governor pointed to the growing hardship experienced by ordinary Nigerians, using soaring electricity bills as an example of the unsustainable economic burden now placed on citizens.

In a direct call to political action, Amaechi urged residents of Rivers State to take a stand by joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He emphasized the importance of participating in the democratic process as a means to end electoral manipulation and reclaim political power at the grassroots level.

“We must stop the writing of results in Rivers,” he declared. “Go and register with the ADC and let’s change the system.”

Amaechi’s comments mark a significant political turning point, suggesting a strong challenge to Tinubu’s 2027 re-election efforts and a growing momentum for opposition forces ahead of the next electoral cycle.
