On the occasion of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 81st birthday celebration, Amnesty International has revealed a disturbing chronicle of atrocities committed under his administration from 2015 to 2023.

Despite birthday well-wishes, the rights organization’s post on X sheds light on the dark side of the so-called dictator-turned-democrat.

In a series of tweets, Amnesty International detailed egregious human rights violations, including the extrajudicial killing of 150 peaceful pro-Biafra protesters, the massacre of 350 Shiite Muslims in Zaria, and the brutal crackdown on #EndSARS protesters.

The post, titled ‘Gross Human Rights Violations Under Buhari Administration,’ also highlighted the mass slaughter in Zaria and the failure to bring perpetrators to justice, contributing to a deadly escalation in the farmer-herder conflict.

Amnesty International further recalled the abuse suffered by female survivors of Boko Haram’s insurgency, as well as the harassment and torture of journalists. Despite these revelations, the former president’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, remained silent on the matter.

While President Bola Tinubu praised Buhari’s virtues and undiluted integrity, former Senate president Ahmad Lawan affirmed his commitment to addressing corruption, improving the economy, and enhancing security for all Nigerians.
