Amnesty International has alleged that no fewer than fifteen protesters arrested in 2020 during the Lekki Tollgate shooting are still being detained at the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre and Ikoyi Medium Security Correctional Centre in Lagos without trial.

The Amnesty International asserted this on Friday, October 20, during the 3rd anniversary of the #EndSARS tragic incident in Lagos State.

Amnesty International, in a statement by its media and communications manager in Nigeria, Isa Sanusi, said authorities had filed trumped-up charges, including possession of unlawful firearms, theft, arson, and murder against many of the detained protesters.

Some of those allegedly in detention include;

– Daniel Joy-Igbo

– Sodiq Adigun

– Sunday Okoro

– Olumide Fatai

– Oluwole Isa

–  Shehu Anas

–  Akiniran Oyetakin

–  Segun Adeniyi

–  Onuorah Odih

–  Jeremiah Lucky

–  Gideon Ikwujomah

–  Irinyemi Olorunwanbe

–  Quadri Azeez

–  Olamide Lekan

–  Sadiq Riliwan

Isa Sanusi said, “Our investigation shows the Nigerian authorities’ utter disdain for human rights. Three years in detention without trial is a travesty of justice. This shows the authorities’ contempt for due process of law. The protesters must be immediately and unconditionally released.

“Many peaceful #EndSARS protesters have been subjected to torture and other ill-treatment since 2020.”

One of the detained protesters, Oluwole Isa, currently held in Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre, told Amnesty International how he was tortured while in detention at the SARS facility in Ikeja.
