Sir Barrister Donald Chidi Amamgbo, a prominent senatorial hopeful for Anambra South District, has officially resigned from the Labour Party, citing severe internal conflicts and a failure of credible leadership as the main reasons for his departure.

Known widely by his nickname Okosisii Ihiala, Amamgbo announced his decision in a statement released to the press on Wednesday. He urged his supporters and the people of Anambra South to shift their allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he describes as a more stable and people-oriented political platform.

Effective July 4, 2025, Amamgbo’s resignation followed “deep personal reflection and extensive consultations” with his family, political allies, and grassroots supporters. In his statement, he detailed how the Labour Party has been plagued by “irreconcilable structural failures, internal divisions, and a leadership vacuum,” hampering its ability to provide credible representation and promote grassroots development.

“The Labour Party, which once held so much promise, has sadly become entangled in endless legal battles and factional struggles that have eroded public trust and crippled its ability to offer meaningful direction,” he emphasized.

A noted billionaire entrepreneur, Amamgbo stressed that his political ambitions remain rooted in delivering effective, visionary, and people-centered leadership for the diverse communities within the senatorial district, including Ihiala, Nnewi, Aguata, Orumba, and Ekwusigo.

He described the ADC as his new political home a party characterized by “stability, equity, and innovation,” and praised it as “a platform where the voice of the people can truly be amplified.”

Calling on his wide network of supporters spanning youth groups, women leaders, community stakeholders, traders, farmers, artisans, students, and entrepreneurs Amamgbo urged them to unite in a collective movement aimed at fostering genuine, inclusive, and sustainable change.

“This movement is not about party labels. It is about you, the people: the traders in Nnewi, the farmers in Orumba, the artisans in Ihiala, the students in Uli, the elders in Osumenyi, the young mothers in Oko every soul that desires meaningful progress,” he said passionately.

Adding a note of symbolism, Amamgbo pointed out the convenient coincidence that links his initials to his new party’s acronym: “In what seems like a coincidence, Amamgbo Donald Chidi (ADC) is now with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) a stunning coincidence from ADC to ADC.”

Reaffirming his pledge to champion prosperity, justice, and impactful representation, he concluded his statement by calling on voters to rally behind the ADC and work collaboratively to herald “a new era of hope for Anambra South.”

“Let the new chapter begin. Let the torch of hope burn brighter. Let Anambra South rise,” he declared, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming electoral season.
