Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, has handed over laptops provided by the state government to the Heads of Department of Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics (DBPRS) across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The computer is said to be for data collection and storage.
Handing over the systems to the 21 Council officials after a one-day capacity training program, Nwabunwanne said the systems would encourage them to function effectively on their various job schedules.
According to him, the capacity training program was organized in collaboration with Anambra state ICT Agency, with the theme, ‘Empowering Data-Driven Governance through Technology.
The Commissioner urged the participants to take good advantage of the opportunity offered them to improve their knowledge on their various fields.
While declaring the event open, Nwabunwanne commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for transiting government administration from analogue to digital system of administration and for providing work tool for them.
He added: “The laptop is a work tool which the government is providing to facilitate their activities and improve their productivity. They belong to the Ministry of Local Government Affairs and should be handled carefully.
“Do not abuse the opportunity, they are basic work tools to improve on your job … we shall equip Local Government offices with furniture. Needs assessment is going on.”
While charging them to always rely on the data they are going to generate, the Commissioner urged them also to be sure of figures collected.
On his part, the Managing Director of Anambra ICT Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Agbata, explained that data could be stored in Anambra cloud and called up for purposes without seeking for assistance or waiting longer for such information.
He added: “The training was crucial as it would empower them with the knowledge of data management and data security, adding that his office was determined to help the governor achieve its vision to digitise governance processes.
“The government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo is determined to improve your work environment and satisfaction, he is passionate about your welfare and has said that Local Government funds should be used for local government.”
