Governor Charles Soludo has officially emerged as the candidate for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the upcoming gubernatorial election, slated for November 8, 2025, in Anambra State.
His nomination follows a decisive victory in the APGA primary election, where he garnered 3,168 votes from delegates across all 21 local government areas of the state.
The primary election, held on Saturday at the Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra, witnessed participation from 3,260 delegates, with 3,175 accredited voters. The returning officer for the election, Uche Nwegbo, announced the results, confirming only four invalid votes.
Victory Announcement by Returning Officer
In line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, Uche Nwegbo, the chief returning officer, declared Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the candidate of the party. “With the authority conferred on me, I hereby declare Governor Soludo as the flag bearer of APGA,” Nwegbo stated.
Governor Soludo Accepts Nomination and Commits to Anambra’s Progress
Following his nomination, Governor Soludo addressed the crowd, expressing his gratitude and reaffirming his dedication to both his party members and the people of Anambra.
He remarked, “Anambra has been rising with the progressive leadership of APGA, and I will continue to work towards advancing the state’s growth. We are just getting started, and there is much more to come.”
Soludo also acknowledged the support of citizens and industry leaders, adding, “I appreciate everyone who has endorsed us for a second term, including those from other political parties. The consensus we have today is unprecedented in Anambra’s political history.”
The governor took the opportunity to reassure his supporters, stating, “When I took office, I promised to never let Anambra down. We are working tirelessly to ensure that we keep this promise.”
Soludo Sets Ambitious Goals for the 2025 Election
With optimism, Soludo set his sights on a resounding victory in the 2025 election. He emphasized the party’s intent to win all 21 local governments and 326 wards in the state, even aiming for a victory in every polling unit.
Deputy Onyeka Ibezim Re-nominated as Running Mate
In a move that reinforces continuity, Soludo re-nominated his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, as his running mate. “If it isn’t broken, why fix it?” Soludo quipped, affirming that the political battle has only just begun.
