Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has congratulated Team Anambra who recently clinched the 2023 international debate championship held in Malaysia.

The team, which represented Team Nigeria at the championship, had defeated Team Malaysia 1, represented by Pin Hwa High School 3-0 by unanimous decision at the semi-finals before reaching the final.

The team thereafter defeated their counterparts from the Hin Hua High School Debate team in the finals, beating them 2-1 to emerge overall winners of the competition, which ended early on Thursday.

The Anambra debate team which represented Team Nigeria at the competition, comprised pupils who were drawn from various secondary schools across Anambra.

Reacting, Obi said the Anambra debate champions were drawn from three schools: St. Michael’s Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Nimo; All Hallows Seminary Onitsha; Mater Amabilis, Umuoji, which according to him, are among the mission schools that he anded back to their original owners when he was the Governor of the State.

This, the LP leader said, corroborates his ever-consistent message that “education is the best investment any government can make for its citizens”.

He added; “I am glad to see that some educational reforms and investments that we made under my watch in Anambra are still bearing great fruits for the State and the nation in general. I thank the schools’ management and their teachers for their invaluable efforts in giving the students quality education. I also appreciate the successive governors of Anambra State for sustaining the high educational standards of the State.

“As we revolutionized education in Anambra, we plan to do the same in Nigeria as a whole for the benefit of our children and the greater glory of our nation. It is POssible!”
