The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the identification of vigilante operatives involved in the brutal assault and public humiliation of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on July 23, 2025, involved the Udo Ga Chi vigilante group. A viral video shared by the Haven 360 Foundation revealed the moment armed vigilantes stormed a corps members’ lodge, falsely accusing them of engaging in internet fraud, despite their clear identification as NYSC members.
One of the victims, Jennifer Elohor, was seen in the video being beaten and stripped naked. The Haven 360 Foundation described the attack as “a brutal assault and violation of the rights” of the corps members, highlighting that Elohor was left “exposed and covered in blood” after the ordeal.
The foundation further alleged that the corps members endured degrading treatment, including verbal abuse of a sexually threatening nature, and called for urgent accountability.
In response, the Anambra Police Command strongly condemned the vigilantes’ actions and confirmed that those involved have been identified. However, they noted that the absence of the primary victim has temporarily delayed further investigation.
“Assault in any form is a criminal offence under Nigerian law,” the police stated. They assured corps members across the state of their safety and urged them to report any instances of abuse or intimidation.
The command also issued a stern warning to vigilante groups and similar outfits, stating that any misuse of power or violent behavior would not be tolerated and would be met with appropriate legal consequences.
