Former senator and spokesperson for the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign, Dino Melaye, has delivered a scathing critique of his former party, boldly declaring that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) represents a genuine national altar call for change.

Speaking during an interview on Channel TV, Melaye asserted that the PDP has effectively been “purchased” by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the PDP as little more than a parastatal of the APC.

Melaye emphasized his belief that the PDP’s independence has been severely compromised, stating, “In fact, they take dates for NEC meetings from the villa,” implying direct control or influence from the presidency over the party’s internal affairs. This assertion points to a deep crisis within the PDP’s leadership and operational autonomy.

Reflecting on the PDP’s decline, Melaye lamented, “The PDP became sick, and unfortunately, the party completely lost its direction, leadership, and the current leadership compromised.” His comments highlight what he perceives as a collapse of leadership and a profound lack of vision within the once-dominant party.

By contrast, Melaye positioned the ADC as a viable alternative for Nigerians seeking genuine political renewal and accountability. His endorsement of the ADC signals a shift in his political allegiance and underscores growing frustrations among some former PDP members regarding the state of the party and Nigeria’s political landscape.

The interview marks a significant critique from a prominent PDP figure, raising questions about the internal dynamics of Nigeria’s major opposition party and the broader implications for the country’s democracy.
