Tragedy struck in Ondo State as Mr. Alaba Abey, the Returning Officer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election, fell victim to an assassination by unknown assailants.

The incident occurred on Saturday at his residence in Supare Akoko, within the Akoko South West Local Government Area.

Mr. Abey, who played a crucial role as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), served as the returning officer for the party primary in Ward 10 of the council.

According to his elder brother, Samuel Abbey, the fatal attack occurred on Saturday night, shortly after Mr. Abey returned home and was in front of his house.

The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization, through Mr. Kayode Fasua, the State Information Director, expressed shock and sorrow over the demise of Mr. Abey. They highlighted his active involvement in campaigning for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s election until his tragic end.

It was disclosed that Mr. Abey was shot at his Supare-Akoko residence on April 27. Ajobiewe, speaking on behalf of the campaign organization, emphasized that Mr. Abey was known for his resourcefulness and non-violent nature, with no history of local or domestic disputes.

Calling for swift action, Ajobiewe urged the police authorities to intensify investigations to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

In response, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding Mr. Abey’s assassination.
