The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has expressed solidarity with Nigerians facing hardships due to the policies of President Bola Tinubu and All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
The party strongly criticized the recent significant increase in electricity tariffs, emphasizing the need for a more considerate approach from the government.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) recently announced a substantial tariff hike, raising rates by 241 percent for customers in Band A, particularly affecting those receiving 20 hours or more of electricity daily. Mrs. Olubunmi Odesanya, the state Publicity Secretary, highlighted the detrimental impact of such policies, stating that the APC government seems to offer nothing but hardship to the citizens.
Odesanya pointed out the lack of tangible benefits provided by the current administration, citing issues with security, healthcare, and overall governance. The Labour Party representative called for a review of the minimum wage before any further removal of subsidies on essential services like electricity, emphasizing the need for a more compassionate and supportive government approach.
The Labour Party’s stance underscores the importance of ensuring that basic necessities like electricity remain affordable for all citizens, especially in the face of economic challenges and rising costs. The party advocates for a government that prioritizes the well-being and prosperity of its people, striving for a society where infrastructure development and progress are central to governance.
