Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been suspended by his ward in DawakinTofa local government area of Kano State over allegations of corruption.

The suspension was announced on Monday, 15 April, 2024, following a vote of no confidence passed on Ganduje due to his inability to clear his name from the allegations.

According to Haladu Gwanjo, the legal adviser of the ward, Ganduje is alleged to have committed gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds during his administration in Kano. The executive members of the ward resolved to suspend Ganduje’s membership due to the seriousness of the allegations, particularly the widely circulated video where he allegedly received dollars as a bribe from a contractor.

Ganduje’s suspension is effective from Monday, 15 April, 2024, until he clears himself from the allegations. The former Kano Governor has been given an opportunity to clear his name and restore his membership in the party. However, until then, he remains suspended from the APC.

This suspension is a significant development in Nigerian politics, as it highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and promote accountability in the country. The APC, which is currently the ruling party in Nigeria, has been at the forefront of these efforts, and this suspension demonstrates the party’s commitment to upholding its values and principles.

The suspension of Ganduje is also a reminder that no one is above the law, and that everyone must be held accountable for their actions. It is a testament to the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions and the commitment of its citizens to promote transparency and accountability in governance.

As the investigation into Ganduje’s alleged corruption continues, it is crucial that due process is followed, and that all parties are given a fair hearing. The APC and the Nigerian people must remain vigilant in their efforts to combat corruption and promote good governance, and this suspension is a step in the right direction.
