Yunusa Tanko, a prominent member of the Labour Party, has asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), not Peter Obi, is to blame for Nigeria’s problems.
Tanko, the former spokesman of the Obi/Datti campaign council, made these remarks in response to allegations from APC spokesman Felix Morka, who accused the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of inciting public discontent with his statements.
During an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, Tanko criticized Morka’s comments as “appalling and unbelievable.” He accused the APC and the current government of misleading Nigerians rather than addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
“It’s very appalling and unbelievable,” Tanko said. “Even in his own home, Morka knows the price of a bag of rice. Was it Peter Obi who caused this price hike? Obviously not. The government claims to have increased civil servants’ salaries, yet the money has not reached them. Who is lying here? Is it Peter Obi, or is it those in power deceiving the people?”
Tanko further criticized the government’s priorities, questioning why funds are allocated for projects like a road from Calabar to Lagos while crucial infrastructure in other regions, such as the road from Benin to Enugu, remains in a dire state.
He also highlighted the issue of insecurity, noting that bandits responsible for terrorizing parts of the country have accused the government of sponsoring their activities. “Just a few days ago, Nigerians were being killed like chickens in Zamfara State and Katsina. Was Peter Obi behind the banditry in Zamfara? Clearly not,” Tanko argued.
Tanko concluded by condemning what he saw as the government’s failure to address critical issues affecting Nigerians, such as skyrocketing school fees, while instead focusing on attacking Peter Obi. “You cannot look at Nigerians and insult them at this level of magnitude and think you are justified. It’s completely unacceptable,” he added.
