More Nigerians have kicked against the choice of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
In a piece titled “Muslim-Muslim ticket: My worries and opinion”, Mr. Julius Ezeronye, a Nigerian in diaspora thinks that the choice by Tinubu is one poorly made.
He stated:
“We all know that our politicians, 99% of them, always say what they don’t mean or mean what they didn’t say. So please allow me to, think out loud.
“1. How sure are we, that this is not a pay back time for the President Umaru Musa Yar’adua imbroglio?
“Many Fulani elites still believe that Baba, President Olusegun Obasanjo, knew the health situation of President Yar’adua and deliberately, directly or indirectly forced him on them. We all know what happened. Yar’Adua could not finish one tenure before death came calling and the rest is history.
“2. Do Muslims in the real North believe and consider southern Muslims as “True” believers?
“A northern leader, before the announcement of the dangerous Muslim-Muslim ticket, while addressing some northern clerics said: “We have discussed with the presidential aspirant and he has agreed to pick a Muslim as his running mate.
“That can also mean he was forced. The man wants to be President at all cost, he told us so why himself.
“3. How sure are we that the Muslim North are not afraid that if the President Yar’adua incident happens to him, the presidential aspirant, after 2023 (that is if by chance they win), they will end up with a Christian president from the north?
My opinion
“This present president and this same party have practically educated us enough to see and feel the importance of religion in Nigerian politics today, so it will be foolish of us to believe and trust their “Christians have nothing to fear”.
“Have we asked ourselves: Can the Muslim North ever accept a Christian-Christian ticket?
“Our leaders, especially this present one have failed to unite and practically educate us enough to believe and trust a Muslim – Muslim ticket.
“True Leadership, is to lead by example.”
Another Nigerian from the South South region, a political strategist and mobilizer, Prince Crispus Amarabhi Ovoh Jnr. added his voice to the rising crisis heating up the politics in Nigeria.
His words:
“With the rising religious conflict across the country, Bola Tinubu is supposed to understand the heart beat of Nigerians and is supposed to choose a Christian from the northern part of Nigeria to fit into the equation.
“I feel sad and disappointed because with Tinubu’s reasoning, Christains in the north do not have any capable hands to run the ticket with him under APC.
“It is a let down to all the Christians in APC around the country that made up more than 50 per cent of the total population of the country.
“It shows enemies of Nigeria have hacked into Tinubu’s mind and we see destruction approach Nigeria via religious violence if Tinubu wins the presidency.
“But I do not see that coming to reality because his party is already in bad shape because of his decision.
“I see a grand plot within the ruling class in putting Nigeria on a religious crisis in the nearest future under the claims of problems solving being promoted by Tinubu.”
