Rauf Aregbesola, interim national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on party supporters to uphold civility and focus on issue-based engagement as the party positions itself as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Returning to Lagos from Abuja after the official launch of the ADC, Aregbesola was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters. In his address, he emphasized the need for discipline and maturity in political discourse, urging ADC members to avoid personal attacks and instead challenge APC supporters with verifiable facts about Nigeria’s current economic hardships.
“I sincerely thank our supporters and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who came out to receive me on my arrival in Lagos. The task before us is immense, and I reminded everyone that we do not need to fight, insult, or attack anyone. When others resort to abuse or name-calling, we must rise above it. Instead, ask them one simple question: Are Nigerians better off today than they were before?” Aregbesola stated.
Focus on the Issues: Food Inflation, Economy, and Poverty
Aregbesola encouraged ADC supporters to highlight the real challenges facing Nigerians, such as:
Soaring food inflation
Economic stagnation
Rising cost of living
Deepening poverty affecting millions
He stressed that debates should remain focused on these pressing issues, with supporters articulating the ADC’s position clearly and confidently. According to Aregbesola, this approach will demonstrate why the ADC is a necessary and credible alternative for Nigeria’s progress and long-term sustainability.
A Call for High-Level Discourse
Aregbesola’s message comes at a time of heightened political activity, as the ADC seeks to unseat the Tinubu-led APC government. He reminded supporters that the journey ahead is serious and requires focus, discipline, and a commitment to constructive engagement.
“Let our debates remain focused on the issues that matter. Articulate our position clearly and confidently. Explain why our new political home, the ADC, represents a credible and necessary alternative for Nigeria’s progress and long-term sustainability,” he concluded
