In a recent incident that has sparked widespread concern, six individuals from Kaduna State were apprehended attempting to use fake Lagos State indigene certificates to secure positions in the Nigerian Army during the ongoing 86 Regular Recruits Intake in Lagos.

The fraudulent candidates claimed affiliation with Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos Island Local Government Area, and Oshodi Isolo Local Government Area, stirring reactions from the Southwest.

A viral video capturing the scene has triggered a call for collective efforts to prevent such deceit in future recruitments.

Responding to the controversy, the Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to maintaining a transparent and fair recruitment process aligned with its core values of integrity.

According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the arrest of the candidates underscores the army’s dedication to ensuring only authentic indigenes are recruited from specific states. The video reveals a transparent process, showcasing the State Representative’s active role in scrutinizing candidates’ claims of indigeneship.

Nwachukwu condemned the attempt by the candidates to manipulate the recruitment system, labeling it as a breach of the Nigerian Army’s procedures. He assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the extent of the fraudulent activities and identify those involved, emphasizing the importance of adhering to honesty and integrity throughout the recruitment process.

Prospective candidates were warned that any attempts to manipulate the recruitment process would face legal consequences. The Nigerian Army expressed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice in the matter, vowing to work closely with relevant authorities to hold the culprits accountable.

The public was urged to support the army’s mission to recruit the most qualified and deserving individuals, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process.
