Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that it is deliberately using poverty as a tool to control and suppress the Nigerian populace.

Speaking during a public appearance, Atiku accused the current government of failing to meet expectations and instead resorting to “weaponising poverty” to maintain political power.

On his decision to join a political coalition aimed at challenging Tinubu’s leadership, Atiku stated, “You may call me a conspirator; you may call me anything. But that is exactly why we’re forming this alliance—to ensure we don’t allow them to continue weaponising poverty.”

He also extended warm birthday wishes to former Transportation Minister, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, referring to him as “one of our star conspirators” in the effort to end the misuse of state power.

“We will continue to conspire with you to ensure we reduce poverty and prevent its use as a political weapon. Thank you very much,” Atiku concluded.

The remarks suggest growing momentum among opposition figures seeking to challenge the current administration ahead of future elections.
