Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed admiration for the Super Eagles of Nigeria following their valiant effort in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

Despite a captivating display, the Super Eagles succumbed 2-1 to the Elephants of Ivory Coast in a thrilling contest on Sunday night.

In a post shared via his official X handle (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night, Atiku conveyed his disappointment with the unexpected outcome, acknowledging that it didn’t meet the expectations of Nigerians worldwide.

The former Vice President, however, affirmed unwavering support for the Super Eagles despite their loss in the final and the failure to clinch the AFCON trophy. He emphasized the enduring pride Nigerians feel for their national team.

Atiku praised the Super Eagles for their resilience and dedication throughout the tournament, recognizing their relentless effort and sacrifices to reach the final stage.

In his message, he stated: “Not the result we all expected. Nonetheless, we remain #SuperEagles. Still proud of you guys. Well done, @NGSuperEagles. -AA”
