Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, has extended his congratulations to opposition governors whose election victories were recently upheld by the Supreme Court.

The apex court, in a landmark decision on Friday, affirmed the electoral triumphs of opposition party governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), and Abba Yusuff (Kano).

Atiku, expressing his views through a statement issued by his media office, characterized the court’s judgment as a triumph for democracy. He emphasized that the decision is especially welcomed by the people of Bauchi, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, and Zamfara states.

In his message of congratulations to the governors, the former vice president underscored the pivotal role a united opposition force plays in fortifying democracy in Nigeria. Atiku also affirmed his readiness to lead a coalition of opposition political parties in a concerted effort against the All-Progressives Congress (APC) for the overall benefit of the country.

Encouraging the victorious PDP governors of Bauchi, Zamfara, Plateau, and Kano, Atiku urged them to perceive their triumphs at the Supreme Court as an opportunity to consolidate and expand the scope of good governance in their respective states. He expressed confidence that with the conclusion of the electioneering phase, the PDP can now focus on its crucial role as the major opposition party in the country.

The statement concluded with Atiku reiterating his commitment, stating, “I am as prepared as ever, to lead the charge, alongside all our leaders and Governors, for the good of our country. Where justice is seen to have been substantially rendered, we, as patriots and citizens, will always applaud. There is a guaranteed continuation of the standards of good governance which the PDP has brought to the respective states.”
