The 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step aside if he cannot effectively address the escalating threats posed by killer herdsmen and kidnappers across the country.

Atiku’s statement, posted on his X social media handle, criticized Tinubu for seemingly neglecting the pressing issues of insecurity while the nation grapples with a surge in violent incidents.

In the statement, Atiku accused Tinubu of playing the fiddle while Nigeria faces a growing tide of insecurity, describing the situation as the country drowning in an ocean of threats.

Atiku expressed dismay that the Commander-in-Chief chose to embark on a private visit while distressing incidents unfolded, such as the kidnapping and killing of a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay a N90 million ransom, along with the tragic events affecting two monarchs in Ekiti.

Atiku’s message conveyed a strong call for decisive leadership, stating, “If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside.

“Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief,” a popular refrain that characterised the Muhammadu Buhari administration, Tinubu’s predecessor, who often spent weeks and months on hospital bed and rest abroad.

The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.” Atiku’s words underscored the urgency of addressing the challenges facing the nation and the need for proactive measures to restore security and stability.
