Former Vice President and 2023 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming local government elections in Rivers State via a statement on his X handle.

Atiku emphasized that these elections are a “beacon of hope” for constitutional democracy, offering a fresh opportunity to reinforce local government autonomy as affirmed by the Supreme Court. He noted that these elections breathe life into the foundational principles of the Nigerian republic.

He described the event as a critical moment to affirm constitutionalism and the rule of law, urging all supporters of democracy to rally behind the process. Atiku encouraged voters to safeguard their right to freely and fairly choose their leaders, viewing it as a collective responsibility for those committed to democratic values.

The former vice president commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his leadership in ensuring the local government elections take place. He also called on residents of Rivers State to embrace their civic duty by voting peacefully and purposefully for leaders who will represent their interests at the grassroots level.
