Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar recently welcomed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, to a breakfast meeting at his residence in Adamawa state.

A video shared on Abubakar’s X handle on Saturday shows the two politicians walking together into the dining area of his home.

This meeting follows a similar one in May, when Abubakar hosted Obi at his Abuja residence, which sparked speculation about a potential political alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Abubakar, who served as vice president from 1999 to 2007, has previously run for president on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, but was unsuccessful in both attempts.

Peter Obi, who was Abubakar’s running mate in 2019, transitioned from the PDP to LP in 2022, just months before the 2023 election. In May, Abubakar stated he would continue to contest for the Nigerian presidency as long as his health permits. At 78 years old, he will be 81 when the next presidential election occurs in 2027.

Abubakar has contested for the presidency a total of six times, running as a presidential candidate in 2007, 2019, and 2023.
